ABOUT ME

Hello! I'm Maisie Cherry, a student at Texas A&M University studying Communication with two certificates in Strategic Communication and Professional Event Management.

I am currently growing  my experience and knowledge for Public Relations through various student organizations. Including Public Relations Students Society of America, Student Event Planners Association, and the Aggie BSM. I have had the amazing opportunity to be the Communication Assistant for The Department of Horticultural Sciences for the past two years. This job has given me the experience of event planning and implementation, social media management, coordination of internal and external engagement, and my overall communication skills.

If I am not doing homework or working, I enjoy spending my time reading, practicing my photography skills, going on spontaneous road trips, or catching up with my mom.

INTEREST IN NONPROFITS

After working for an after-school kids program developed for underprivileged children, my regard for nonprofit organizations flourished and took shape to what it is today. Here are some specific subjects that I am passionate about in the non-profit setting:

1

Reformation of the Incarceration System

Growing up down the road from a prison unit with death-row inmates allowed me to speak with public figures who worked for renowned nonprofits, such as The Innocence Project. Furthering my research of this topic has allowed me to be an advocate for humane judicial consequences, and the pursuit of justice for everyone, no matter their race, socioeconomic class, ethnicity, or gender.

2

Equity for Individuals with Disabilities

I have made it a priority in my academic career and personal life to voice the lack of opportunities we give to those with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. I am passionate about these individuals receiving a quality of life they deserve. In one of my event-planning courses, I was given the chance to write and plan multiple events for The Bee Community, a non-profit that aids in the employment of individuals with disabilities.

3

Youth Development & Equal Opportunities

My time working at the Lincoln Recreation Center in College Station has shaped the fundamentals of my morals and beliefs. I believe every child should have the chance to be  cherished, educated, and successful. With non-profit organizations, we grow closer to this goal. Companies such as Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, and Big Brothers/Big Sisters shape the future of underprivileged children in America.

Short-Term Goals

1 / Graduate

In December of 2023, I will hopefully be walking across the stage at Reed Arena.

2 / Find an Entry-Level Position

After Graduation, I will be pursuing an entry-level career in Public Relations that is outside the state of Texas.

3 / Move out of the State

Hopefully after finding a job, I can explore different areas of the country, meet new people, and enjoy my new job.

Long-Term Goals

1 / Travel

In the next 10 years, I want to travel, see the world, learn different cultures and societies, and have fun!

2 / Become a Development Director for a Non-Profit

I would like to move up throughout my career, hopefully becoming the Director of Communications in the setting I choose.

3 / Make a Difference

One of the reasons I chose nonprofits was to pursue a direction in life that benefits and elevates people's lives. I hope I can accomplish this in some way.
